The Great Lakes Fishery Trust (GLFT) is currently accepting preproposals that will increase predictability and sustainability of the Great Lakes fisheries and promote ecosystem health. Themes are highlighted below to assist in the preparation of preproposals:

* Research and related management activities consistent with the goals in the Lake Michigan Fish-Community Objectives
* Habitat assessment, inventory, and classification (Note: Additional habitat research will be funded under a separate RFP in 2005 issued jointly with the Great Lakes Fishery Commission and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)
* Innovative research intended to lead to effective means to prevent the introduction of invasive species in the Great Lakes and limit the range and/or abundance of invasive species already present
* Research that models critical ecosystem components essential to sustainable fish population management
* Research and analysis that documents the contribution (economic, environmental, and/or social) of various elements of the fishery
* Synthesis and dissemination of scientific research-a small amount of grant funding is available for projects that seek to synthesize and disseminate scientific information to other researchers, policy makers, and the general public

NOTE: This solicitation encompasses projects related to sturgeon research, formerly conducted under a separate RFP. There will NOT be a separate RFP dedicated to sturgeon in 2005.

For information on preproposal requirements and/or to submit a preproposal, visit the GLFT e-Grant Application System at www.glft.org. The Great Lakes Fishery Trust will only accept preproposals submitted via the GLFT e-Grant Application System on or before 5:00 pm, January 25, 2005.
