For over three decades, Peter Raven has served as director of the Missouri Botanical Gardens, an institution he has nurtured to a world-class center for botanical research, education and horticultural display. He is a nationally and internationally renowned conservationist who has been described by Time Magazine as a "Hero for the Plante," who is doing extraordinary things to preserve and protect the environment

Dr. Raven has served as Home Secretary of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, is a long-time member of the National Geographic Society's Committee for Research and Exploration and is recipient of numerous prizes and awards, including the prestigious Environment Prize of the Institut de la Vie, the Cosmos Prize, the National Medal of Science, and Guggenheim and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowships.
