Peggy Shepard is known nationally for her work in the areas of environmental justice, community-based participatory research, urban air pollution and public health.  WE ACT was founded in 1988 and is New York's first environmental justice organization created to improve environmental health and quality of life in communities of color.  Ms. Shepard has received numerous recognitions and awards for environmental leadership and advocacy, including the 10th Annual Heinz Award for the Environment.
