E-M:/ Sen. Joe Mack -- Dead at 85

Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

Michigan Public Radio reports that Senator Joe Mack,
Ironwood Democrat and longtime nemesis of the Michigan
environmental and conservation movement is dead at 85.

While John Engler was still in diapers, Joe Mack was the
one politician who sought to teach Michigan environmentalists
just how much they could lose by his attacks on environmental
law. Mack was notable in the late 70's for Senate Bill 1003, a
bill to trash Michigan's Environmental Protection Act.

Those of us who have been around a while will remember the
epic battles between Mack and Attorney Roger Connor who was
then the Executive Director of the West Michigan Environmental
Action Council on SB 1003. Mack held at various times posts
as Chair of the Senate Conservation Committee....if memory serves
me correctly he was also, at times, on the Senate Appropriations

After Mack left office it was John Engler who assumed the whole of
environmental wrecker-in-chief.....and Engler ultimately did a lot more
damage......and is now trying to wreck Social Security in his new
position as head of the National Association of Manufacturers.
