Come celebrate the denial of a new permit to Hamtramck's medical waste incinerator.  This is a big step toward closing the facility which means cleaner air for us all.  Find out how you can work with lawmakers to help keep the air you breathe safer.

Hamtramck Celebrates Clean Air Victory, Joins a Campaign for Justice

Community Leader Calls for Support of Environmental Civil Rights Campaign

Hamtramck Environmental Action Team (HEAT) will celebrate Earth Day with a victory party for the apparent closing of Hamtramck medical waste incinerator. Free fun, food and music will on tap to celebrate struggle that took years. The Michigan Department of Environmental quality denied the incinerator’s permit renewal.  It is the last medical waste incinerator in the state and the third to close in Southeast Michigan (including the Henry Ford Hospital incinerator and the Central Wayne incinerator).   HEAT also officially joins and endorses the Campaign for State Action on Environmental Justice with policy goals that prevent another incinerator and the health and economic problems that come with it.  The CSAEJ seeks to remedy the disproportionate exposure to pollution suffered by communities of color and low income communities.
