Forest Management Workshop Offered on June 4

The Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring a one-day forestry management workshop in Roscommon on June 4. The workshop will cover forest health, exotic and invasive species management, forest management for wildlife, conducting timber sales, grassland establishment, Kirtland's warbler biology and management, prescribed burning, forest fire protection and cost-share programs.

"This workshop is aimed at northern Lower Peninsula private landowners who are interested in managing habitat on their property," said Brian Piccolo, DNR wildlife habitat biologist. "There will be a variety of specialists and experts giving presentations and answering questions about everything from attracting wildlife to your property to cost-share programs that can help you pay for habitat management."

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ralph A. MacMullan Center located at 104 Conservation Drive in Roscommon. The cost of the workshop is $5, which includes lunch. If you are interested in attending, contact Chris Nieman at 989-275-5231 by June 1.

Michigan State University Extension, local conservation districts, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service are assisting the DNR with this event.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.
