"Phytoremediation and Brownfield Redevlopment: A Case
Study of the Ford Rouge Renovation Project"
by Dr Clayton Rugh, MSU Plant & Soil Sciences Dept

Phytoremediation is a ground-breaking technical
achievement in contaminated soil remediation whereby
certain plants are used to clean up pollution in the
environment. Plants remove harmful chemicals such as
heavy metals & pesticides by literally taking them up
through their root system. Plants are also useful in
preventing wind, rain, and groundwater from carrying
pollution away from contaminated sites to other areas.
Dr. Clayton Rugh works as the technical consultant for
the ongoing Ford Rouge Renovation Project in Dearborn,
Michigan under the direction of William McDonough.
Anyone working on urban agriculture, brownfield
redevelopment, and environmental justice will not want
to miss this rare opportunity to learn from one of the
leading experts in phytoremediation. Please join us!!
