Enviro-Mich message from "Alexander J. Sagady" <ajs@sagady.com>
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earlier today, Muskegon and Holland went over the old
125 ppb health standard....joining an area near Pittsburgh
and RI/SE Massachusetts today as either the 2nd or 3rd most
1 hour ozone polluted places in the United States today.
At 6:13 PM, MDEQ is showing both Muskegon and Holland
as Code Red (Unhealthy air pollution)
New Haven and Warren in Macomb County have spent the
last 5 and 6 hours at 100 ppb ozone and above, respectively.
Detroit East 7 mile has spent the last 6 hours at 100 ppb ozone or above
Holland and Muskegon have been over 110 ppb for the last 6 and
5 hours, respectively.
Port Huron has been over 110 ppb ozone for the last 5 hours
From Berrien county around St. Joe to Leelanau County along Lake Michigan, current
8 hour averages are all at or over 85 ppb...the level of the ozone
health standard.
Peshawbestown in Leelanau county and Benzonia in Benzie County
had their highest 1 hour average in the last hour and their
air pollution episode event will continue well into the evening from
well aged air pollution transport from the Chicago area.
If the ozone alone wasn't bad enough, PM 2.5 is in code orange
(Unhealthy for sensitive groups today )
also at Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Houghton Lake, Port Huron and
Dearborn (although these reports are under MDEQ's warning about
potentially reading either too high or too low.
