There are some lessons here for other townships statewide.
With much of Michigan's population stagnant or falling, Allendale Township
is headed in the other direction.
"I think the downside is, potentially, you lose control," Beelen said.
"Things start to control you instead of you controlling what happens. We are
working hard not to let that happen."
