Job Title:                                            Natural Resource

Employer's Name:                             Macomb Conservation District

Location:                                            Macomb County, Michigan

 

Work Status:                                      Full-time - One year 
grant - This position could lead to a more permanent position depending on 
funding.  The MCD will work to continue this program for at least 6 years or 
more

 

Educational Requirements -                      BS

 

Travel Requirements                        Up to 30% - use of District 
vehicle

 

Compensation:             $25,000 per year, plus benefit package. Includes 
vacation, sick, and holiday pay, and travel reimbursement. 

Job Description:            The Macomb Conservation District in Richmond, 
Michigan, an agricultural based unit of Michigan State Government, is 
seeking a person for the continuance of a special grant program called 
the "Macomb Buffer Initiative". This program has been run on a year-to-year 
grant from the Macomb County Board of Commissioners and funds from the 
Macomb Conservation District Operations fund and is 4-years old.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  a.. Minimum of B.S. in environmental science, forestry, and fisheries or 
equivalent work experience. 
  b.. Self-starting and has interpersonal and networking skills to build and 
maintain relationships with other organizations, local officials and 
government agencies and landowners. 
  c.. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a multi-dimension 
project 
  d.. Knowledge of the grant application process and grant administration 
  e.. Strong interest in Water Quality issues consistent with the mission of 
the Macomb Conservation District (refer to:www.macombcd.com) 
  f.. Strong writing skills, general computer knowledge, word processing and 
electronic mail 
  g.. Experience in developing and conducting workshops or forums for 
private landowners and local municipalities 
  h.. Demonstrate knowledge of riparian restoration processes and native 
species
 

Job Requirements:

A Natural Resources Specialist, employed under the Macomb Conservation 
District for the Macomb County Buffer Initiative, will be involved in the 
following activities, tailoring the program to the particular resource needs 
within the district:

  1.. Serve as the first point of contact for urban and rural riparian 
landowners to promote conservation buffers and other conservation practices 
along riparian areas within Macomb County 
  2.. Provide, as a public service, both on-site and in-office assistance to 
landowners so that    they can make informed decisions addressing riparian 
areas on their property.
  3.. Educate riparian landowners of the exceptional benefits of 
buffer/filter strip installation
 

  4.. Promote the Macomb Conservation District as a watershed management 
service provider and advocate 
  5.. Develop and implement a work plan 
  6.. Work with cooperating agencies on riparian issues through displays and 
workshops 
  7.. Prepares written materials such as reports, recommendations, 
correspondence, proposals, educational materials, and news articles on an as 
needed basis.
