E-M:/ Workshop: Managing your Backyard Woods

A Backyard Woods Management Workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Wayne, MI.  The program, sponsored by the Wayne County Conservation District, will target landowners with small wooded properties from one acre to several acres in size.  The workshop will cover management planning, and specific management techniques to improve wildlife habitat, improve water quality, alter plant species composition, increase forest health, and improve aesthetics.

Andy Henriksen, Conservation District Forester will be giving the presentation.  “In Michigan, nearly half of our forestland is owned by private landowners” he says.  “By taking an active roll in the management of your piece of land, you will better enjoy your property and help shape the future of natural resources in the state.”

Conservation Districts have been protecting Michigan’s natural resources since the 1930’s.  Through annual tree, shrub and native plant sales, soil survey information, forestry and wildlife technical assistance, workshops, and demonstrations, Conservation Districts have helped protect and enhance our soil, water, air and related resources

To register for the tree planting workshop, contact the District Forester, Andy Henriksen, at (734) 761-6721x112 or by email at andy.henriksen@mi.nacdnet.net.
