Re: E-M:/ Muskegon - Dairy eyes wastewater property

Enviro-Mich message from dijaan <dijaan@charter.net>

Just in time to take up the slack from the vacating Paper Mill....maybe we should move all the CAFO's in Michigan onto the Muskegon Wastewater site - after all, you long time Muskegon residents will remember the original marketing slogan for the Wastewater plant:: MUSKEGON COUNTY LOVES POLLUTERS!

A West Michigan-based dairy operator wants to buy 600 acres of Muskegon County Wastewater Management System property and establish a large corporate dairy farm.
From an environmental point of view, the farm would be a groundbreaking venture because its liquid animal waste would be discharged into the county's wastewater treatment system, while the solid waste would be treated in an on-site "digester" used to produce methane gas for energy purposes.
It would be the first facility of its kind in the state to dispose of its waste through those processes, according to an official with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
