E-M:/ Tom Princen to Discuss New Book Nov. 7th

EVENT: Thomas Princen discusses his new book The Logic of Sufficiency

DATE: Monday, November 7

TIME: 4 p.m.

PLACE: Room 1040 DanaBuilding

RECEPTION: 5:30 p.m., Shaman Drum book store on State Street

Thomas Princen?s new book, published this month by MIT Press asks: What if modern society put a priority on the material security of its citizens and the ecological integrity of its resource base?  What if citizens considered ecological constraint a source of economic security? What would modern society look like? How would it function?

A natural resource and environmental policy scholar, Princen proposes a fundamental reorganization of society around the principle of sufficiency. Sufficiency, he says, is not about denial ? not about sacrifice or doing without. Rather, sufficiency in modern society is about good work and good government; it is about goods that are good only to a point.

Learn why former U.S. Forest Service Chief Michael Dombeck says The Logic of Sufficiency ?is the most thought-provoking book I have read on the interaction of the individual, society, economics, and the environment.?
