Senate Set to Vote on Final Budget, Arctic Refuge Drilling
Statement of Carl Pope, Sierra Club Executive Director

The Sierra Club applauds those courageous Senators who stood up today to
support Senator Maria Cantwell's amendment to strip Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge drilling revenues from the budget reconciliation bill.
Unfortunately that important amendment was defeated 48-51, and the Senate
is expected to vote on the full reconciliation package later today or
Friday morning.

A vote for the budget reconciliation bill is now clearly a vote for
drilling in the Arctic Refuge. Senators who oppose Arctic Refuge drilling
have the opportunity to stop this bad idea now. The choice is clear:
Senators who believe in protecting the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge must
vote against the reconciliation bill.
