-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Alex and Leeanne,

The posting from Enviro-Mich was forwarded to me from several sources.
1) A 2003 DEQ brochure, "A Remedy for Prescription Drug Disposal ..." was developed and distributed several years ago. It is available on-line at <http://www.deq.state.mi.us/documents/deq-ess-tas-cau-RXbrochure.pdf>http://www.deq.state.mi.us/documents/deq-ess-tas-cau-RXbrochure.pdf Bottom line is that making the pharmaceuticals unusable and disposing as solid waste is preferable to flushing it down the toilet.
2) Many HHW programs accept batteries for recycling. A clickable map containing contacts for local HHW, recycling and composting programs is available at <http://www.michigan.gov/deqreswastecontacts>www.michigan.gov/deqreswastecontacts. Rechargeable batteries are collected at many retail locations by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC). By typing in a zip code at the website <http://www.rbrc.org>www.rbrc.org you can find the closest collection location. Most of these locations also accept cell phones.

I hope this answers some of your questions.
