Notification of Public Listening Session

The Michigan Food Policy Council (MFPC) will hold its third regional Public Listening
Session in Kalamazoo to solicit comments and recommendations relating to the
Council's mission. Created by Executive Order 2005-13, the MFPC brings diverse foodrelated
stakeholders together to recommend programs and policies to the Governor that
cultivate a safe, healthy and available food supply for all of Michigan's residents while
building on the state's agricultural diversity to enhance economic growth.

The Public Listening Session is on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 in Kalamazoo, MI
following the Northside Association for Community Development's (NACD) board
meeting. The session is scheduled from 7:00 * 8:30pm at NACD's office. All interested
parties are welcome to attend the listening session.

MFPC Council Members are seeking public comments and recommendations relating to
the Council's charge as organized by Task Forces. The Task Forces are:

* Task Force A: Expanding Food-Related Businesses and Jobs will recommend
programs and policies that increase economic activity resulting in new and
expanded businesses and jobs across all food-related sectors in the state.
* Task Force B: Improving Access to Fresh and Healthy Foods will recommend
programs and policies that increase access to fresh and healthy foods to all
Michigan residents especially school children, low-income and/or at-risk seniors
and families, and urban residents.
* Task Force C: Promoting Michigan Foods will recommend programs and policies
that promote institutional and public purchase and consumption of Michigan
grown and processed foods.
* Task Force D: Enhancing Agricultural Viability will recommend programs and
policies that economically and environmentally strengthen the state's agricultural
system and expand upon the state's agricultural diversity.

At the listening session please describe your priority issues, how they relate to the work
of the Council and Task Forces, and identify any policy options or recommendations
that address your issues. You may submit your comments either orally or in writing.
