E-M:/ SEMG Sierra Club "First Thursdays" Program-April 6

Enviro-Mich message from Carol Izant <cogknot@yahoo.com>

Dear Friends,

Please join us for our regular "First Thursdays"
General Membership meeting on April 6, 2006 from 7-9pm
at the Northwest Unitarian-Universalist Church, 23925
Northwestern Hwy (bewteen 9 & 10 Mile along the
southbound John Lodge service drive), Southfield, MI.
The topic for April:

"Building a Bridge Over Troubled Waters: The
Environmental Justice Implications of the New
Detroit-Windsor International Bridge"

The latest chapter in the long history of the
interests of Big Business vs The Little Guy is the
unfolding controversy over the proposed new
Detroit-Windsor International bridge. While some might
question the need for a second span over the Detroit
River, all signs point to the inevitability of this
massive engineering project. Invited residents of
Southwest Detroit and Windsor will address the impact
the new bridge will have on both the human and natural
environment. Donele Wilkins, Executive Director of
Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice (and 2005
winner of Sierra Club's Bunyan Bryant Aaward) will
present her latest efforts to promote the Principles
of Environmental Justice in the State of Michigan.
