E-M:/ A Healthy Forest Question

A healthy forest question:
In an essay, Michigan historian Larry Massey described how early Potterville residents would burn wood and haul the ash to railroad where a chemical company would purchase the ash for its mineral constituents. For many families, this was their only source of hard cash. How many cycles of cutting and wood removal can a Northern Michigan forest experience before its mineral resources become depleted?
