Deer Management Workshop and NRC Listening Session Slated for Saturday Afternoon in Marquette

The Department of Natural Resources will host a deer management workshop for Upper Peninsula residents at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Ramada Inn located at 412 W. Washington St. in Marquette. The workshop will take place in the Peninsula Room on the second level of the hotel.

The workshop will be followed by a listening session with members of the Natural Resources Commission, who will hear the concerns of Upper Peninsula residents on hunting, fishing and other natural resources issues.

"The deer management workshop is intended to give the UP hunting community and other stakeholders an opportunity to gain insight into the processes the DNR uses to estimate the deer population," said DNR Wildlife Division Chief Bill Moritz. "I encourage hunters and others to join us to learn about how we estimate deer population and to provide crucial feedback about this important component of wildlife management."

The workshop will conclude at approximately 4 p.m. and the listening session with the NRC members will immediately follow. A reception for the public is slated from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., immediately following the listening session.

NRC members scheduled to attend include John Madigan of Munising, Frank Wheatlake of Big Rapids and Bob Garner of Cadillac.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.
