E-M:/ Michigan's Echo

Enviro-Mich message from "Dave Poulson" <poulson@msu.edu>

Congratulations to Todd Scott, executive director of the Michigan
Mountain Biking Association, for a creative use of the Michigan Echo news
feed. Todd configured the feed for recreation and public lands stories and
fed it right into one of his organization's forums. Now the news stories can
serve as prompts for discussion by his members.
For instance, 16 people weighed in on a discussion prompted by a news
story about selling off under utilized state parks. Todd says the service
saves him a lot of cutting and pasting. See
This use has prompted the Knight Center to run a contest for the most
creative use of Echo by an organization. Remember, you can configure the RSS
feed by category or by region. A west Michigan group may be interested in
providing members with west Michigan environmental news. A recycling
organization may want statewide stories about trash issues. Or maybe you'll
want to divert a certain kind of story into a forum for reaction.
See ej.msu.edu/news.php for a look at the service with links explaining
The winner of the contest will get a free subscription to Echo.
Oh, wait, that's already free. But using Echo creatively will make it
easier to find ways to keep it free. Help us impress potential funders.
Send us how you've used Echo - even if it's just with a desktop
feedreader or the e-mail service. We'll compile a list and circulate.
