E-M:/ articles on Palisades nuclear plant

Below are quotes from the article: "Group objects to plan to sell nuclear plant" from the Jackson Citizen Patriot, Wednesday May 24th, 2006.

"CMS Energy subsidiary Consumers Energy is looking for a buyer for its Palisades Nuclear Plant but a coalition of environmental organizations and other groups say the facility should be shut down, not sold."

"The plant, near Covert, in southwest Michigan is up for re-licensing and the group has filed a 45-page report on their concerns with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission."

May 25, 2006, WOOD TV, Grand Rapids

"Aside from age, the issue of deteriorating reactors - otherwise known as embrittlement - is at the forefront of their fight. "

" 'What is happening is that the industry is scared to death that Palisades is going to run up against this criteria, and they are going to have to do something about embrittlement," said Alice Hirt of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council."

Note: There are some great links to other articles posted after this article.  There is a video on the Palisades' hearing, although I couldn't get it to work. The last sentence in the article is an obvious error as it mentions seven other nuclear plants in Michigan that are in the process of being decommissioned.
