Business Recycling Coordinator
Recycle Ann Arbor is hiring a full-time business
recycling coordinator for the Ann Arbor area to
maximize business and multi-family recycling rates
through account recruitment and excellent customer
Recycle Ann Arbor is a leader in the recycling and
waste reduction field, having started the state?s
first curbside program in 1978.  In twenty-five years,
that grassroots program has matured into one of the
country?s best, acknowledged by the US EPA as a model
program (?Cutting the Waste Stream in Half:  Community
Record-Setters Show How?), serving over 47,000
single-family and multi-family units and over 500
businesses with weekly service.  Recycle Ann Arbor
continues to seek out new and innovative programs and
services to reduce waste and increase recycling. 
Other programs include the state?s largest drop-off
center, handling 6500 tons of material per year; the
Reuse Center, a 20,000 SF retail outlet for the resale
of building materials, furniture, household goods,
appliances, and more otherwise destined for the
landfill; and satellite recycling services to rural
communities with limited recycling options. 
RAA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with over 35
Job Responsibilities
The Business Recycling Coordinator will recruit
businesses and multi-family complexes into the free,
weekly cart-based recycling program run by Recycle Ann
Arbor, manage a number of subscription-based recycling
contracts and improve retention by providing
outstanding customer service.
·        Recruit new accounts to the city program
through all possible means, including cold calling,
mailings, door-to-door, and networking through local
business organizations such as the Chamber of
·        Manage routing and service stops for
approximately 10 subscription-based recycling
contracts one day of the week;
·        promote the use of recycling services to
achieve maximum participation, measured by both volume
and number of accounts serviced;
·        train new businesses on the program and
provide ?refresher? courses to existing customers;
·        establish a new standard of customer service,
improving response times and overall satisfaction with
the program to increase retention, and
·        work closely with the Neighborhood Action
Network coordinator, who will focus on residential
recycling, and the Media Relations Manager to develop
a media campaign consisting of outreach materials,
publicity events, and other media.
?  experience in recycling programs, experience
working with businesses a plus;
?  strong verbal and written communication skills;
?  strong interpersonal skills;
?  ability to develop project plans, coordinate and
complete projects on time and budget;
?  well-organized, self-motivated, and ability to work
?  knowledge of database, word processing, and
internet software;
?  Bachelor?s degree or two years related experience,
or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Salary is commensurate with relevant professional
