Group invites members and community members to join them in a day of composting

Ferndale– The Good Neighbors’ Garden is holding its first hands-on community gardening project – the Composting Kick-off – on Friday, August 4th at 6 PM.  Members and community members from Ferndale, Royal Oak Township, Pleasant Ridge and Oak Park are invited to help create the first composting pile for the garden.  Experienced composters are welcome as well as those who are looking to learn how to compost.  Founder Trevor Johnson will be teaching attendees how to properly maintain and build a compost pile.  Families and children are welcome.

Composting is easy and fun.  Many of the resources used will be brought form home, including “green materials” such as weeds and yard clippings and raw vegetable and fruit scraps, and “brown materials” like straw or hay and non-treated wood.  Participants are The Good Neighbors’ Garden will use no pesticides or manufactured fertilizers.  The composting pile is essential to making the garden grow and to operate in a low-energy, sustainable manner.

The Good Neighbors’ Garden is a newly formed non-profit organization that hopes to bring a deep and sustainable connection between individuals, families, community, our schools and the earth through gardening, education, and community events.  The group hopes to reintegrate nature into our communities while recognizing the businesses that help to promote the vision.  For more information please go to www.goodneighborsgarden.org
