E-M:/ Attack on Net Neutrality and Local Control

Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

Save the Internet!!

You've seen the ads on TV about "TV Freedom".....the
2 minute hate against your local cable provider urged on by
even more oligarchical phone/internet companies entering the field
of consumer television service providers. The same ATT
that illegally grants wiretap access to the National Security Agency
to all of our phone, email and internet traffic.

What this is actually about is eliminating local municipal control over franchises
covering both cable and internet access to benefit corporations like
ATT and Comcast. Say goodbye to local public access to
cable and the ATT-based internet alternatives to it as all such
issues would no longer be under the control of local government.

Wrapped up in this is the "net neutrality" issue and the failure of
these lame duck session bills to protect it. The big internet companies
now want to turn to state legislation after failing to get what they want
in Congress.

These corporate interests want to pass this
legislation in the Michigan Legislature lame duck session very soon.
Here is a further Michigan alert from MoveOn.org about the
proposal in the Michigan Legislature

Environmental organization should support strong moves to
protect public access to communication systems and
net neutrality in order to avoid getting shut out of visibility
and public outreach capability on the "information superhighway."
This is part of ensuring that democracy will still work in America in
the future.

Dear MoveOn member,

Tuesday's the day! The Michigan state Senate will vote this week on a bad bill that would help corporations like AT&T seize more control over what we see and do online.

So this Tuesday at noon, we're rallying in Lansing at the Capitol Rotunda with other members of the SavetheInternet.com Coalition to send a signal to legislators and the media that Michigan residents want Internet freedom protected. After the rally, we will deliver thousands of Save The Internet petition signatures to state senators.

Can you join us in Lansing this TuesdayNovember 28at noon, for a rally to protect Net Neutrality and Internet freedom? If interested, please click here to RSVP:

Feel free to invite your friends to Tuesday's event, and to send them the Net Neutrality petition on the bottom of this email.

Thanks for all you do as we fight to save the Internet.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Democratic victory in Congress was bad news for corporations like AT&T and Comcast, who are trying to kill Net Neutrality and seize control of what we see and do online.

Anticipating a loss in Congress, they're now going to the statestrying to ram a bad bill through Michigan's lame-duck Republican state Senate before it turns Democratic next year. When the vote takes place next week, let's make sure legislators (and the media) know Michigan families want Internet freedom protected!

Next TuesdayNovember 28at noon, can you join MoveOn and the SavetheInternet.com Coalition in Lansing for a rally to protect Internet freedom?

WHAT: Rally to protect Internet freedom
WHEN: Next TuesdayNovember 28at 12pm noon
WHERE: Capitol Rotunda, 111 S. Capitol Ave in Lansing, 1st Floor (event is authorized)
WHO: MoveOn & the SavetheInternet.com Coalitionmedia will be in attendance

Please let us know you are interested. RSVP here:

The "Michigan Video Franchising Bill" was written by phone company lobbyists. They tell legislators and the public that it will expand access to the Internet. What they don't reveal is that unless Net Neutrality protections are added, these corporations will be able to abuse their role as gatekeepers to the Internetdeciding which websites open quickly on your computer based on their own financial self-interest.

More information about Net Neutrality is below. Michigan is now on the front lines of protecting Internet freedomon Tuesday, can you join us for a half hour during lunchtime to let legislators and the media know that Michigan residents want Internet freedom protected?

Thanks for all you do.
