Re: E-M:/ ? RE: / Romulus Wells Shut Down

There should be a series of subsequent postings on EM and Detroit News articles.
My understanding is that the Detroit Fire and Police pension people took over the operation and expect to run it themselves.  In my opinion, this doesn't bode well.  I understand that they have already missed some MDEQ deadlines on straightening out what needs to be done.

ROMULUS -- Less than a year after hazardous materials began being pumped
into controversial 4,500-foot-deep injection wells, the discovery of leaking
fluids has shut them down.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality ordered the closure of two
wells on the 15-acre site owned by Environmental Disposal Systems Inc. after
a quarterly inspection in late October revealed one leaked and another
emitted an unusual acidic vapor, said Jim Sygo, deputy director of the
agency. On Friday, the DEQ issued a letter to the Bingham Farms-based firm
outlining its violations, Sygo said. Fines could follow, he said.
