The MDEQ public hearing for the proposed Harbor Shores Inc. development is scheduled
for January 9, 2007 at 7:00 pm at Works, .
In addition to the legal, moral, environmental policy, and political issues surrounding
the taking of a dedicated public park for private use as a golf course, there are many
environmental issues with this project that affect Jean Klock Park and
areas beyond the park's boundaries.
Harbor Shores Inc. is proposing to fill wetlands and floodplains, to enclose 1200 feet
of a small tributary to the Paw Paw River, and take the dunes and wetlands of Jean Klock Park,
to build a privately-owned golf
course on Lake Michigan. The applicant is proposing wetland and stream
mitigation, and the placing of a large parking lot on the park's beach.
There are alternatives to destroying a park, dunes, wetlands, and rivers.
Please weigh in on this misguided project.
