My message today about ozone two days ago prompts a call from
from Kathryn Savoie, environmental officer of Arab Community Center
for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS), about a terrible
air pollution incident yesterday in Dearborn from Russian-owned
Severstal (the former Rouge Steel operation).
Area residents endured 6 hours of astronomical one hour average PM 2.5
and
PM 10 air pollution:

PM 2.5 24 hour averages went over the health standard threshold to 49
micrograms/cubic meter.
Severstal was doing "maintenance" which had been previously
disclosed to MDEQ who told
citizens the excess emission was only supposed to have lasted 2
hours.
