E-M:/ AP article on Michigan Senate passage of CAFO deregulation

Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

Here is the Associated Press article on the Michigan Senate passage of
the CAFO deregulation package.

The article notes Democratic Senator Jim Barcia's votes in support
of the the package and Republican Senator Bruce Patterson's vote
against the main deregulation bill.

Bay City area enviros need to rake Barcia over the coals on this
one as his vote will only cause the Saginaw Bay algae problem to
get worse.....by trashing permit requirements, trashing public participation,
trashing the Michigan Environmental Protection Act, making all
aspects of CAFO management practices secret and exempt from the
Michigan Freedom of Information Act, saying that discharges or animal
waste are OK just as long as they are not conclusively proven to cause
water quality standard violations, undermining the federal Clean Water Act
and trashing water protection law in Michigan that is more stringent than
the federal Act.

Barcia is either brain-dead or a DINO ["democratic in name only"] if
he thinks this CAFO deregulation package is the solution to
the Saginaw Bay algae problem.
