The Office of Campus Sustainability at Michigan State University is proud to announce its fall line-up of speakers celebrating the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, 2005-2014. This decade long speaker series is meant to provide a venue for fresh perspectives for building a sustainable future for us all and what role education might play in advancing such a vision.
Topics addressed in the talks scheduled for the fall include investing, coal-mining, personal choices and lifestyles, and the role of religion and ecology.

September 27, 7:30pm, 147 Communication Arts - Dave Cooper, http://mountainroadshow.com/bios/ mechanical engineer turned environmentalist, who tells the story of mountaintop coal removal in Appalachia, "Mountaintop Removal: The Unseen Costs of Coal-Fired Power"
October 2, 7:30p.m., Erickson Kiva - Satish Kumar, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satish_Kumar co founder and Director of Programs for Schumacher College and editor of Resurgence a magazine addressing sustainability for more than 40 years, "Strides Toward a Sustainable Future". Laury Hammel, entrepreneur/author and a speaker here last semester, offers this testimony for Satish Kumar who will speak here on October 2 (Gandhi's Birthday) "Satish Kumar is a visionary who puts his forward thinking ideas into practice both in his life and his work. His way of being models his philosophy of love and cooperation. He's one of the most inspiring speakers I've heard on sustainability and spirituality. I strongly encourage everyone to attend one of his presentations."
October 17, 7:30p.m., 107 S. Kedzie - Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker, http://www.religionandecology.org/PressKit/bios/MaryEvelynTucker-Briefly.pdf Co-director of the Forum on Religion and Ecology and Senior Lecturer and scholar at Yale University, "The Growing Alliance of Religion and Ecology". Scott Russell Sanders, another earlier speaker in the series says this about Mary Evelyn Tucker who will speak on October 17,"Mary Evelyn Tucker possesses a remarkable grasp of the world's major spiritual traditions, and a deep understanding of the implications of those traditions for a contemporary ethic of Earth-care. She is a forceful, eloquent, and visionary speaker and a vigorous nurturer of cross-cultural dialogue."
