E-M:/ RE: / Media Advisory--Report on DEQ/DNR Funding

It's time for a ballot initiative to set a 1% sales tax dedicated solely to
DNR and DEQ (maybe Ag). It will never get through the state house and
governor. Citizens will have to make it happen, and make sure that the
funds may not be used for any other purpose.

*MEDIA ADVISORY *

/Michigan//'s Legacy at Risk:
How Michigan's DNR and DEQ have suffered major losses of funding, and
the consequences we face as a state/

/ /

*WHAT:* Press conference in Lansing, MI

*WHEN:* Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, 2007 10:00 AM

*WHERE: *South Steps of the State Capitol Building

*WHO:* Michigan League of Conservation Education Fund, representatives
from Michigan 's environmental community and citizens concerned about
budget cuts to DNR and DEQ.

*WHY:* Because full funding for the Department of Natural Resources and
the Department of Environmental Quality are critical for the health of
Michigan's citizens and our State's natural beauty. State Park closures,
reduced protection for Michigan's natural resources, and delays in
cleaning up toxic contamination place Michigan's prosperity at risk.

Adequate funding to protect the State's unparalleled natural resources
must be part of any budget agreement.
