Vreba Hoff Dairy Development is asking Ogden Township in
Lenawee County to support a grant request they are preparing requesting
economic development assistance from the state to support the building of a new
5,000 head dairy there -- does this make sense to anyone outside of Vreba Hoff?

ADRIAN — Several representatives from Ogden Township
urged the Lenawee County Road Commission board on Friday to not support a state
grant for a controversial 5,000-cow dairy development at Mulberry Road and Treat Highway. But a development firm
representative argued the project will be good for Lenawee County’s
economy.
Debate over supporting a grant application for the proposed New Rips Dairy
began two weeks ago when the road commission board was informed that a grant
application was being prepared by Vreba-Hoff Development, which is acting as a
consultant on the project for two Dutch farmers. The grant proposal is for help
in rebuilding two miles of Mulberry
Road to Class A standards and replacing a bridge.
Ogden
Township representatives
said they believe it is unfair for tax dollars to aid in the dairy development
when existing farms are not eligible to receive the same help with road
improvements. Local farm owner Mike Fike said he is concerned that other local
roads near the dairy will be damaged by traffic the facility will generate.
