Enviro-Mich message from Larry Nooden <ldnum@umich.edu>

Again, more clear evidence is emerging that our top elected officials and
their appointees are not representing public interests in the consumer and
environmental arenas. It is also anti-science.
Recently, the nation?s top official for consumer product safety has asked
Congress to reject legislation intended to strengthen the agency, which
polices thousands of consumer goods, from toys to tools. Why? In whose
interest is this? Big money, not consumers.

The Oct 17, 2007 issue of Science (Vol 318, p169) has a similar article
titled "Plight of the surgeon general" describes White House interference
with efforts to inform the public and pressure to conform to political
ideologies.
All this comes along with many efforts to suppress global climate change
data.
When combined with secrecy, this looks an anti-public and anti-democratic
pattern of governing.
