What: Step it Up 2007: A Climate Change Awareness Event
When: November 3, 2007 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM
Why: To bring the college and community together to raise awareness in regards to different aspects of climate change and apply pressure to state and national governments to make climate change a high priority issue.
How: The day will kick off with music and Senator Mark Schauer giving his remarks Mark Schauer, speaking on the new Renewable Energy Standard currently going through Michigan Legislature. .
The next portion will be a Climate Change Awareness fair. Several student and community organizations will have booths presenting specific issues pertaining to global climate change, ranging from human rights issues to the scientific basis, from ways to decrease our individual energy use to information on different alternative energy sources. Interactions between students, faculty and community members will foster dialogue on climate change and implementation of action on the local level.
The second half of the event will
include the filming of a documentary movie and interactive art project
expressing individuals concerns about global climate change. This art and video
footage will be presented to the college, Michigan State Senate and US Congress.

There will also be a line up of live music from Austin Gee, Nels Christianson and the local band Blue Crimson. Local apple cider and doughnuts will also be available.
