St. Clair Shores canal now a wetland? St. Clair Shores fears state plan will jolt home values
ST. CLAIR SHORES -- A plan by the state to reclassify a muck-filled canal as a wetland has touched off a frenzy among waterfront homeowners who fear their property values will plummet.
The state Department of Environmental Quality, citing low water levels and creeping vegetation, recently proposed reclassifying a canal off Benjamin Street as a wetland, which means it could not be dredged to allow for boat access to Lake St. Clair.
