Job Posting: Development Specialist

 

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV)/Michigan LCV Education Fund is seeking a talented and self-motivated individual to assist the Executive Director with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) fundraising.  This is a full time position.

Organizational Background: 

Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is a dynamic non-profit, independent political organization working with its members and the state’s conservation and environmental community to make environmental protection a top priority with elected officials and the voting public. Michigan LCV helps elect candidates to public office who stand up for conservation principles, and holds elected officials accountable for their actions.  The affiliated Michigan LCV Education Fund shares staff and office space with Michigan LCV, and is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, non-partisan organization that builds the political muscle of the conservation community through technical support, training and coalition building.  Michigan LCV Education Fund also supports programs to increase voting and citizen participation in Michigan’s democratic process.  The office is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  

 

Duties & Responsibilities:  The Development Specialist will work out of the Ann Arbor office to assist the Executive Director with fundraising for both Michigan LCV and the affiliated Michigan LCV Education Fund (c3) organization. This individual will play an integral role in crafting and supporting the implementation of a strong, long-term, sustainable fundraising program. Duties will generally include: grant writing and assisting with grant reports; working with the Board of Directors on their fundraising goals as well as other volunteer fundraising committees; major donor research; carrying out all aspects of fundraising events; direct mail program, including re-solicit, prospect and email appeal programs. The successful candidate will be energetic, confident, and demonstrate success in relationship building, fundraising and volunteer development and planning.

 

Specific responsibilities: include working closely with the Executive Director on the following projects: 

·               Letters of Inquiry to foundations for work in 2008 and beyond;

·               Grant proposals for 2008 and beyond;

·               Grant reports for 2007 and beyond;

·               Meetings and phone calls with potential donors identified by the Executive Director, acting as the primary contact in some cases;

·               Fundraising events.  Event work may include, but is not restricted to, working closely with the Executive Director and Host Committee, making calls, coordinating mail and phone lists, sending invitations, researching donors, recruiting volunteers, and assisting staff at events;

·               Direct mail program including making sure Appeals, Prospecting and Email solicitations stay on schedule.

 

Necessary qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Development experience, or at least a keen interest and willingness to learn
  • High comfort level with fundraising and relationship building
  • Experience working in nonprofit organizations a plus
  • Familiarity with donor tracking systems or equivalent
  • Highly organized with an ability to create and execute work plans
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Willingness to travel

Commensurate with experience
