Enviro-Mich message from "Anna Dorothy Graham" <grahama9@msu.edu>

Hmmm. Yesterday, someone posted a news headline in which the CEO of GM
called climate change "a crock" (could whoever did that repost, if possible?
- would like to print the article out). Today the headlines announce that
oil prices have surged to a new high.
Meanwhile, according to greencarcongress.com:
"So, on a year-to-year basis, buyers tended to buy slightly more fuel
efficient cars than the average of the GM fleet, slightly less fuel
efficient trucks than the average of the GM fleet as represented by what
sold. A 1 mpg improvement may not sound like much—but then you have to
look at what that actually means. Let’s take 15,000 miles driven per year
for each car. GM sold 945,538 cars in the first six months of this year.
Those cars will drive an estimated 14,183,070,000 miles in one year. A 1 mpg
improvement racks up a savings of more than 13 million gallons of gas. That
gain, though, is offset by the decrease in efective mpg in trucks."
And GM still makes some of the most fuel-inefficient SUVs, vans and trucks
on the road ... And it has lost its status as number one auto maker to
Toyota, which makes some of the MOST fuel efficient cars on the road.
You would think that the shareholders and boardmembers of GM would make a
logical leap from its CEO's attitudes to its declining sales and profits.
