Ecology Center Annual Meeting Features Acclaimed Investigative Reporter

The annual membership meeting of the Ecology Center will feature acclaimed investigative journalist Mark Schapiro, editorial director of the Center for Investigative Reporting, and author of Exposed: The Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Products and What’s at Stake for American Power.  The event takes place on Thursday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m., at Washtenaw Community College, 4800 E. Huron River Drive, in Room 101 of the Morris Lawrence Building.

Mr. Schapiro’s new book investigates how corporations intent on thwarting passage of stricter environmental and health guidelines here in the United States are forced to meet new demands by the European Union to improve their products.  Schapiro has built an award-winning track record of investigative journalism, and his work has appeared in Harper's, The Nation, Mother Jones, and The Atlantic Monthly. He's also been a correspondent on NOW with Bill Moyers.

The Ecology Center has produced nationally recognized reports on toxic chemicals in toys and other consumer products, most recently through the consumer databases www.HealthyToys.org and www.HealthyCar.org.  The Ecology Center meeting will discuss these projects and other Ecology Center campaigns, and will also include the election of the Center's Board of Directors.  The meeting is open to the general public, and admission is free.  For more information, please call (734) 761-3186 ext. 104.

The Ecology Center is a Michigan-based environmental organization that works for a safe and healthy environment where people live, work, and play.  The Ecology Center is also the parent organization of Recycle Ann Arbor, one of the country’s premier nonprofit recycling organizations.
