E-M:/ Hearings on CAFO permits tonight and Thursday



Two major hearings on NPDES (water quality) permits for CAFOs are scheduled by the DEQ tonight and tomorrow.  See below the Hearing info for how to access the permit application materials, public notice, etc. on the DEQ’s website (not actually very easy to figure out on your own).  

 

PROPOSED NEW CAFO:

  • BUSTORF DAIRY CAFO, 30430 Longnecker Road, Leonidas, St. Joseph County

HEARING TONIGHT, Wednesday, May 21, at 7:00 PM at The Grange Hall, 30970 Kings Road, Leonidas

2 EXISTING UNPERMITTED CAFOS:

  • WALDRON DAIRY CAFO, 11774 Meridian Road, Waldron, MI, Hillsdale Cty
  • VREBA-HOFF DAIRY CAFO,  7601 Dillon Highway, Hudson, MI, Lenawee Cty.

HEARING THURSDAY, MAY 22, at 6:30 PM for Waldron, no earlier than 7:30 PM for Vreba-Hoff

Hudson Middle School Gymnasium, 771 North Maple Grove Avenue, Hudson

To find the proposed permits, public notice, and additional materials submitted by the applicants go to  http://www.deq.state.mi.us/owis/Page/main/Home.aspx and

 

1) Select “Permits on Public Notice”

 

2) On the Search Page JUST ENTER THE TWO ITEMS BELOW THEN HIT THE SEARCH BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM:

-          Under “Permitting Program” select NPDES

-          Under Designated Facility Name Enter the name of the facility (Bustorf, Vreba-Hoff, or Waldron will work)

 

3) Click on the icon on the left side of the line to open the site for the specific facility
