Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

BELOW -- Communique' from BANCO -- Black Autonomy Network
Community Organization -- Benton Harbor, MI

All Michigan Activists....

Remember.... REVEREND EDWARD PINKNEY of Benton Harbor
is our [Michigan environmental, civil rights and civil liberties
community] POLITICAL PRISONER in the Berrien County Jail.

They came for Reverend Pinkney and others said nothing.....Will you
be next????

What this is all about is an attempt by corporate power of Whirlpool
to steal prime public park lands on the shores of Lake Michigan
from the people of Benton Harbor, a false criminal prosecution of
Reverend Pinkney by a circuit judge having serious
conflicting interests in Berrien County for false allegations of voter fraud,
and corporate power acting through the same judge to overturn
a city council election result that resulted from grass roots
environmental justice organizing and campaigning by Reverend Pinkney.

And to top is all off, Governor Jennifer Granholm.....a "city girl" who
apparently has no appreciation of the situation in Benton Harbon
and the outstanding natural resources and public recreation opportunities at stake
is backing Whirlpool corporate interests against the
among traditional and fundamental Democratic Party constituencies
that Reverend Pinkney and BANCO represent.

Regards, Alex Sagady

Subject: Media Is Picking Up the Harbor Shores Disaster Story

Washington Post was first, then the Chicago Tribune, today the Chicago Reader.

It is reported that Harbor Shores, playground for the wealthy,
has been in the planning stages for many years. What has not been
reported so far is that Whirlpool dominated Berrien County has jailed
whistleblower Rev. Edward Pinkney on false charges, and that it
has had the highest rate of innocent and juvenile convictions in the
state of Michigan for a long time. The majority of people being
processed through the county court system are African-Americans
from Benton Harbor. Often a person is harassed and intimidated
by law enforcement in the community to get the process started.
By simply going to Benton Harbor and talking to residents one
can become overwhelmed by the stories of law enforcement abuse.

"Perhaps some of you do not own a foot of ground. Remember then, that
this is your park, it belongs to you," said John Klock, a local newspaper
publisher, when he gave the land to the city of Benton Harbor in 1917 in
honor of his daughter.
