pleased to announce an upcoming event entitled “General Information
Session: Air Permitting
and Proposed Coal-Fired Power Plants” on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, from 10:00
a.m. until 1:00 p.m. It will be held at the Library of Michigan’s
Historical Center Forum Room, •
general information regarding the air pollution
rules, •
general information regarding the air permitting
process, •
an overview of each pending coal-fired power
plant project, and •
an overview of the enhanced public participation
process. Please note that due to limited seating, interested parties

. Overview The
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Air Quality Division (AQD),
is currently reviewing air
permit applications for four proposed coal-fired power plants in these
projects, and in an effort to provide information about the agency’s role
during the review of these applications,
the AQD and the Environmental Assistance Program (EAP) are offering this
general information session
for legislators and other interested parties. This outreach session will
provide general information about
air pollution rules, the air permitting process, the enhanced public comment
process, and the appeal process.
There will also be an overview of each of the coal-fired power plant proposals. This is an information session only. This session is not intended to be a forum for public comment on
the proposed
projects. Opportunities for public comment and additional public information
sessions will be provided
throughout the state in the coming months and will be announced through various
media outlets as required
by law. For
