Why come?
Come celebrate recent successes to protect sand dunes and talk about current and future challenges for sand dune and coastal protection in southwest Michigan. Recent successes include North Point Conservation Area near Van Buren State Park and Deerlick Creek. With the work of several people coming together, these two properties are on track to soon be protected and kept available for public use and access to Lake Michigan.
Of course, continuing challenges need to be addressed. These challenges include the fight to save other dune properties such as Jean Klock Park in Benton Harbor and the Dennison property in Saugatuck. Other continuing challenges include educating future generations about dune ecosystems and their importance to our culture and economy and working with local governments to balance development with the protection of the dune ecosystem. Preserve the Dunes is committed to both of these challenges now and in the future. Please support our efforts and join us for this great event!
