JOB POSTING – DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
The Leslie Science and Nature Center
(LSNC), a non-profit organization dedicated to educating children and families
about the natural world, is seeking exceptional candidates for our Development
Director position. Our mission statement is:
The Leslie Science and Nature Center provides youth with educational
experiences to foster understanding, appreciation, excitement and respect for
the natural environment; generating responsible environmental stewardship in
recognition of Dr. and Mrs. Leslie.
LSNC
is currently looking for a highly motivated and personable individual to
fulfill the position of Development Director, an important leadership position
on the organization’s management team. The Development
Director’s main tasks include supporting the Capital Campaign, managing
major and corporate giving, planning special events, writing grants, and
organizing the annual giving.
Rate
of Pay/Benefits: Salary based on experience;
medical and retirement benefits.
Essential
Functions
Fund Development and Finance:
- Lead fundraising strategies through:
- Identifying, cultivating and
nurturing major gifts
- Developing and implementing
corporate giving strategies
- Strategizing and implementing
development campaigns
- Growing annual giving and
appeals campaigns through planning and designing fundraising pieces and
promotional materials
- Assist with program and operational grants,
including: grant identification and submissions, reporting and
correspondence
- Assist in annual budgeting process
Community Outreach
- Oversee major special events
- Lead outreach and correspondence with donors
- Coordinate cultivation visits
- Represent LSNC at various events/meetings in the
community
Administration
- Oversee development data entry
- Coordinate donor correspondence
- Coordinate donor data with Accountant
- Participate in weekly Director’s meeting
to support overall organization operations
- Help develop, support and track goals and
objectives in organization strategic plan
- Participate in Board meetings and direct Board
Development Committee
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interest in supporting
LSNC and environmental education
- Demonstrated knowledge and
experience in non profit fundraising with a proven record in raising
support through such activities as annual gifts, grants, direct mail,
corporate and foundation solicitations, special events
- Strong organization and
planning skills with attention to detail and follow through
- Excellent written and oral
communication skills
- Ability to multi task, be
flexible, be self motivated and adapt
- Ability to relate to many
different constituencies and interests, as they relate to the mission of
the organization
- Experience in managing budgets
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word,
Excel and ability to learn other software, as needed
- Ability to fulfill
professional responsibilities including: punctuality, organization and
planning, strong follow-through and volunteer management
Education, Qualifications, Credentials & Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree
- Development and fundraising experience with
non-profit is a plus
