U.S. Areas of Concern Program Annual Meeting: Setting Targets, Delisting Impairments and Beyond!

The annual meeting for the U.S. Areas of Concern program will convene participants from the 30 U.S. AOCs to review recent developments affecting the AOCs; assess the status of the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration’s AOC recommendations; identify opportunities to expedite progress on key AOC tasks; and consider actions that will strengthen the regional U.S. AOC program.
The meeting will feature more than 40 presentations on activities underway in the U.S. Great Lakes Areas of Concern. The following are the major topics that will be addressed at the meeting:
Who Should Attend
The meeting is intended for all stakeholders working to restore environmental quality in the U.S. Areas of Concern, including federal, state and local agency staff; members of local stakeholder groups; elected officials; citizens organizations; contractors and consultants involved in restoration activities; and other parties.
The meeting registration fee is $40 and includes lunch on Wednesday, breaks, and all meeting materials. To register, complete the enclosed registration form and submit it to the Great Lakes Commission. The registration fee may be paid in advance or onsite at the meeting. The registration deadline is Friday, September 19!
Funding is available to support participation in the meeting from representatives from the U.S. and binational Areas of Concern. The chair of each local RAP group will be invited to designate one representative who will be eligible for travel funding.
Lodging is available at the Kensington Court Hotel, where the meeting is being held. A block of sleeping rooms has been reserved under the Great Lakes Commission’s name for Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 23-24, at a rate of $87 plus tax. The reserved block will be released Sept. 5, after which rooms will be provided on a space-available basis. Call the hotel at 800-344-7829.
