Title: Rogers City, Gaylord Coal News; Big Energy Future Gig
Dear E-Micher--

We’ve got two new articles about Michigan’s coal rush...and a plug for this weekend’s conference on Michigan’s energy future that’s happening in our neck of the woods.

The first article looks at growing local opposition to Rogers City’s proposed coal plant. It surfaced recently at two MDEQ public hearings there, and at the local electric co-op’s annual meeting—a surprising turn of events. The story has lots of links to background information, including a cool new Web site that can help you send more-effective written comments to the MDEQ about the plant. Read all about it:

We also report on work being done in Michigan on coal-plant carbon-capture. The technology has a long way to go, may never get there because it costs so much, and would have to operate at an almost unimaginably large scale to significantly affect global warming. But there are people in Michigan working to make it happen. Meet a few of them here:

And this reminder: There’s a big conference on Michigan’s energy future, environment, and economy this weekend at Crystal Mountain Resort, which is near Thompsonville, roughly between Cadillac and Frankfort, on M-115. The cast of characters on the schedule is quite something, and there should be lots of lively conversation both on the panels and in the hallways. There’s more about it here:

Hope you find something interesting in all of this. Thanks for clicking in with us!
