Position title:  Michigan Campaigns Coordinator
Location:  East Lansing, MI            
Closing Date:  December 16, 2008 (or until the ideal candidates is identified)

Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund seek a Campaigns Coordinator who will organize and advocate on behalf of the organization’s 235,000 Michigan members. The successful applicant will play a lead role in the development and implementation of environmental, public health and democracy campaigns. 

Clean Water Action is a national citizens’ organization working for clean, safe and affordable water, prevention of health-threatening pollution, creation of environmentally- safe jobs and businesses, and empowerment of people to make democracy work. Clean Water Action organizes strong grassroots groups, coalitions and campaigns to protect our environment, health, economic well-being and community quality of life.  Clean Water Fund's mission is to develop strong grassroots environmental leadership and to bring together diverse constituencies to work cooperatively for changes that improve their lives, focused on health, consumer, environmental and community problems.


  • Work with local groups, environmental partners, and members to develop and implement winning legislative strategies and campaigns
  • Build and strengthen networks and coalitions to support legislative and political campaign
  • Help develop and carry out plans for publicizing campaign-related messages and activities
  • Represent Clean Water Action at the Capitol in Lansing
  • Assist with the citizen lobby days at the Capitol and in targeted legislative districts
  • Willingness to engage in fundraising with major donors and foundations
  • Other tasks as assigned


  • A minimum of three years of successful professional campaign leadership experience
  • Experience working with leaders in the political, environmental, media and funder communities
  • Good judgment, well organized and ability to handle multiple responsibilities
  • Proven ability to analyze situations and develop strategies for success
  • Successful community organizing experience with diverse people and community groups 
  • Experience in all aspects of press relations and media communications
  • Experience in directing and supervising volunteers and staff 
  • Familiarity or willingness to undertake cutting edge internet advocacy
  • Highly productive, hardworking, and reliable
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; experience preparing and delivering public presentations
  • Proficiency with database programs and technologies
  • Well-organized and self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Flexibility to adjust to project needs and to work weekday evenings and weekends as needed
