Sierra Club 2009 Green Cruise Intern needed
The Green Cruise is an event that celebrates forms of transportation that do not burn fossil fuels. Participants of all ages will show off their green forms of transportation in a parade that goes across Nine Mile, beginning at Woodward Avenue in Ferndale. The event also includes pre-parade bike rides on Woodard Ave as well as a neighborhood ride. There will also be a “Green Alley” in Ferndale where participants will have an opportunity to learn about green changes they can make in their lives, eat lunch and have fun. The Sierra Club’s 5th annual Green Cruise parade for Southeast Michigan is set for August 8th, 2009. Www.sierraclub.org/greencruise
The Green Cruise intern responsibilities would be working with the volunteer Green Cruise Planning Committee to plan and carry out the event. This could include promotion for the event (thru earned and paid media, fliers, booths at events, online media, presentations, etc.), contacting event vendors, helping plan site logistics, helping plan educational activities for the Green Alley, helping organize aspects of the event such as the rides or parade, and working with the Committee to do research and carry out decisions made at Planning Committee meetings.
Position could begin as soon as January (or later in the year depending on availability) and continue through mid-August. The unpaid internship would be based out of the Sierra Club’s Royal Oak office. Hours range from part time in the spring, becoming full time in the summer months.
Applications for the internship can be sent to Tiffany Hartung at firstname.lastname@example.org
