Free Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs in support of President-Elect Obama’s National Day of Service on Monday January 19, 2009
Lansing, MI – Lansing residents have been hard hit by the state’s economic troubles, and the Michigan Sierra Club has teamed up with Lowe’s Home Improvement and the Cristo Rey Community Center to help out by giving away over 350 free compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Starting at 11am on Monday January 19, 2009, low income Lansing residents are invited to come to the Cristo Rey Community Center at 1717 North High Street for their free bulbs. One bulb will be given to each family member in attendance. The giveaway will end at 4pm, or sooner if the bulbs run out before then.
“We know how hard it is for families to pay their energy bills right now, when it costs so much for heat in winter,” said Rita Jack, organizer with the Michigan Sierra Club. “We hope that giving away these light bulbs will help, they’re more efficient, they use less energy, and they last a lot longer than regular light bulbs.”
The Sierra Club, Lowe’s Home Improvement, and the Cristo Rey Community Center are joining thousands of volunteers and organizations across the country who are participating in President-Elect Barack Obama’s call for a National Day of Service on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.
