Michigan citizens and ratepayers have paid dearly for nuclear reactors in the past - with huge taxpayer subsidies, with enormous construction costs overruns, by paying for industry nuclear stranded costs, with big repair bills for aging reactors, with health costs, with a tragic legacy of uranium mining and processing that does long-term harm to other communities' watersheds and generates lethal, radioactive wastes that the U.S. government acknowledges must be kept from the biosphere for over a million years.

Instead of dangerous nuclear reactors or dirty coal, we can embrace quicker, cheaper sustainable energy options such as energy conservation, energy efficiency and truly renewable energy, such as wind and solar. The time is now. -Kay Cumbow
