Public Meeting Scheduled on Humboldt Mill Permit Application

The Department of Environmental Quality has scheduled a public meeting
to share information and hear public comments on an application for a
mining permit from Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company for the proposed
Humboldt Mill.  The meeting will be held Wednesday, February 18, at the
Humboldt Township Hall, 244 County Road FAF in Champion.  An afternoon
meeting will be held from 1:00 to 4:45 p.m. and an evening meeting from
6:00 to 9:30 p.m.  The first hour of each meeting will provide a chance
for individuals to take part in informal question and answer discussions
with staff of the DEQ Mining Team, and the remainder of time will be set
aside for the public to make formal comments on the application for DEQ

Kennecott submitted plans for the proposed Humboldt Mill permit
application to the DEQ on December 26, 2008.  KEMC is proposing to reuse
the existing Humboldt Mill facilities located in Humboldt Township to
process ore from the KEMC Eagle Mine.  This project will entail
processing the ore to concentrate and shipping the concentrate to Canada
or to other smelter locations.

A copy of the application may be reviewed at the DEQ Offices in Gwinn
or Lansing, the Humboldt Township Hall, or the Peter White Library in
Marquette.  The application can also be viewed on the Internet at
