Michigan's Largest Wind Energy Conference Ever
Will be held March 3-4 in Detroit
Detroit, MI (March 3 - 4, 2009) – Over a thousand attendees are expected to learn about the opportunities for wind development in Detroit on March 3rd and 4th during Michigan's largest wind energy conference to date.
The 2009 Michigan Wind Energy Conference promises to deliver an all-star cast of key note speakers representing both state and national leaders within the wind industry. Jim Walker, President of the American Wind Energy Association will present on the National vision for Wind Development. Peter Mandelstam, of BlueWater Wind, will discuss US off-shore wind potential.
We are energized by the large turnout for this wind conference. It clearly demonstrates that wind energy will play an important role in diversifying Michigan's energy mix and in creating new green jobs for our state" said Howard Edelson, president of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association.
The two-day conference also provides six separate "breakout sessions" each one focusing on a different topics including wind energy manufacturing and technology, commercial wind development, off-shore development, wind turbine siting issues and community wind energy development.
Armed with some of the best wind resources throughout the nation and new state policies to promote the development of wind energy, Over 50 exhibitors and sponsors as well as nearly a 1,000 people will be attending the conference. The participants will be learning how Michigan plans to build on the momentum created by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm's public commitment to renewable energy made during her 2009 State of the State address.
"Michigan is poised to become a national leader in both wind energy manufacturing and generation," said Stanley "Skip" Pruss, director of the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth. "The Governor has created a 45 by 20 plan of reducing Michigan's use of imported energy and reliance on fossil fuels for generating electricity by 45 percent by 2020. By increasing our use of wind energy and other renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and new technologies, we are strategically positioning Michigan to take advantage of the rising national demand for renewable energy to grow good-paying jobs in our state."
The 2009 Michigan Wind Energy Conference is being hosted by the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association (GLREA) and has been developed in coordination with the U.S. Department of Energy, Michigan's Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DELEG), the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Next Energy, Michigan State's Land Policy Institute and the Michigan Public Service Commission.
